NBA D League Coach of the Iowa Energy, Nick Nurse, is a native of Carroll, Iowa. He attended Kuemper High School, where in 1985 he led his team to the Big School State Championship in basketball.
Kuemper Football reached State playoffs berth as Nick (of course) quarterbacked the team. He became an accomplished athlete in track, baseball, football - as any small town Iowa high school kid worth their salt (diversify baby!) but basketball was and will always be his true love.
This passion for hoops propelled him into another stratosphere. That is, once he learned how to shoot (from diversify to focus!) More about that later.
Suffice it to say, he went from pretty good to nothing but net in those developmental years.
Due to this drive he earned a basketball scholarship to the University of Northern Iowa. He graduated from UNI with a degree in accounting having achieved 7 school records in three point shooting.
He still holds the unprecedented Division I title of being the highest 3-point percentage shooter in Iowa (not that he brags or tabs!) history. Isn't it about time this gets challenged? Let him help you break that record. He still gets bragging rights, you get the kudos (win/win!) yet what's the best part? It IS is possible.
Next, Nurse crossed state lines and entered "dakota territory" where he commenced his coaching career as an Assistant for the University of South Dakota Men's Basketball Team. Eager to teach and learn during this brief but committed two year stint - Nurse simultaneously earned a Masters Degree prior to his departure.
Nurse was an integral part of the coaching dynamic which changed a mindset, thus changing history. The Coyotes elevated their playing level and reached national playoffs in the early 90's. That legacy lives on today. Just ask any player from that era.

Nurse's desire to gain valuable Head Coaching experience and improve team performance led him to Europe in 1996, where he remained for the next 11 years. During this time, he achieved many Coaching accomplishments which included winning 9 championships.
Nurse continues to be an avid sports person as he completed the Prague Marathon and the London Triathlon. He also won the Chicago Triathlon for his age group in 1995. Yes, we realize this is dated. That was then, this is now. Probably not the Iron Man he once was! ;)
Was Nick Nurse born with mad basketball skills, specializing in the highly coveted three?
Not exactly. He had more than his share of bricks and air balls along the way. However, tenacity got the best of him. He learned the most critical aspect to playing basketball. He learned to shoot like a champion. All day every day. It wasn't easy, but the steps were and still are VERY SIMPLE.
As a result Nick Nurse Enterprises was born. With the bricks he once shot, Nick Nurse Enterprises through it's specialized products, camps and academies has been built. Success is the mortar holding it all together. Building champions one tenacious hooper at a time.
From tiny tots and teenagers to professional athletes and beyond, champions start here. Nick Nurse has conducted basketball camps for the past two decades in US and abroad. Nick Nurse Enterprises entire foundation is built on one philosophy - Shoot like a Champion.
All day everyday. If you are the next shooting star waiting to emerge, welcome to the ride of your life. Your best shots start here. So do Champions.
